Pumaspeed ST Focus Fastest in the UK 154.8
The Pumaspeed Silver ST 300 focus was invited by Performance Ford Magazine to a NEW SCHOOL shoot out on the main runway at Woodbridge Air Force Base near Ipswitch .This article is featured in this month's (July) edition.
Other vehicles present on the day were 2 ST150's ,Various ST170 and Turbo Zetec focus and KA. ST Focus participants included the GGR300 and a car from WOLF.
To Ensure fair and unbias results all timing was under taken by Performance Ford with their own satelite based timing gear.Weather conditions were very changable , wind ,rain and then dry all within short periods.
Wolf ran 5-6 passes on the runway and pushed the top speed record to 149 mph.
GGR again ran a good number of 0-60 and high speed runs which pushed the record further to 151.5
The pumaspeed car had a total of only 2 runs which resulted in the fastest speed of the day 154.8 mph.
A quote from Tony McQuire M.D. of Pumaspeed 'Both Myself and my passenger Mark from JAMSPORT were only out in the wet testing the Air / Fuel ratio on the new HIGH POWER engine tune. Safety was my main concern as the tyres were deflated to 23 PSI to get more traction off the line. If we had the tyres at 30-32 PSi, had a good launch and kept it nailed we should have seen another 4-5 mph. The Speedo was still climbing ! but the runway was running out . This is a very encouraging result for the future of the ST Focus and Pumaspeed. 154.8 is fast enough for me next time i will let someone else drive it !!'
Tony's safety fear was realized whae some 15 mins later a fellow participant had a major incident in his 176 mph Turbo focus.This incident closed the runway for the day which put an end to any further runs on the day
