The Mk3 generation of Focus ST Diesel is perfect to tune. Ford have delivered a much more laid back power delivery than the ST250 petrol version, a little bit too laid back the Pumaspeed development team believed.

The Team looked at various methods to tune the new Focus ST Diesel and quickly called on experts at MAXD to develop not only a remap calibration but actually design the protocols to talk to the ECU as nothing was available at that time.

The MAXD boys took the customer donated development car in hand and in the space of 2 weeks developed the communication protocols and the new Stage 1 MAXD remap to allow the DIY enthusiast to do all the tuning at home using the programmer shown in the photos.

This MAXD Stage 3 calibration has been made to suit the ultimate Pumaspeed X37 Hybrid Turbo and will take the ST Diesel engine with a DPF delete and extra breathing modifications and bring out the very best from the engine. The graph shows a solid 270 plus bhp and over 520nm. (The remapping is torque limited to approx 520nm with the stock flywheel, but can be unleashed up to 600nm with a single mass flywheel conversion)

These power figures create a real hot hatch and one that can easily match and exceed the petrol ST Focus. The New Stage 3 MAXD software keeps the power delivery very smooth and progressive.

This low down kick of torque gives you effortless acceleration and in gear pace, no need to work the gearbox and engine too hard when going for an overtake.

Is the MAXDOUT mapping warranty safe?
- Yes we believe so, the MAXD flash programmer has a unique feature, it allows you to read and store the original file on any Windows PC! This saved file can, at any time, be re-installed to the car and the vehicle taken into Ford for any recall works.

- The programmer can be used to upload and download an unlimited number of times but after recall works please contact Pumaspeed again as Ford may have uploaded a new stock firmware version that may need one of our updated files
 

What happens to my stock mapping?
- This will be read and will be saved on the laptop for re-use at any time and as many times as you wish.
 

What if my car is already mapped?
- Your ECU will be read by the software and this will be treated as the stock mapping for your car. We do have stock maps available and these can be included if required.
 

Is the software easy DIY install on and off the car?
- Yes the custom software is very simple to use and runs on any Windows laptop.

 

Can I upgrade the maps to a higher level?
- Yes the benefit of the system is that MAXD can easily send you upgraded files from the above list as you upgrade the hardware to suit.

Can MAXD write a custom file to suit my list of mods?
- Yes the in house calibration specialists at MAXD can tailor a mapping to suit you and your driving style. Whilst MAXD research and development does run through most case scenarios there will always be the requirement for that one off special.

Can I use the device on more than one vehicle?
- No the MAXD device locks itself you your vehicles VIN number and cannot be used on another vehicle.

Does the mapping affect the immobilizer ?
- MAXD maps will not affect the vehicle immobilizer in any way.

Do we think its the best?
- The simple answer is YES, Pumaspeed and internet forum owner testing has shown all the MAXD mappings to be higher powered than every other branded mapping, including some very well known names.
