Below are the all important dyno results, from our extensive research and development work over the past 18 months, that you can expect from the Pumaspeed ST440 power package. Run on 99RON Shell V-Power fuel, these are realistic UK figures for Focus ST Mk4 models fitted with our Stage 3R kit.

We understand how daunting it can be selecting the correct spark plugs or induction kit for your car so we have simplified this 3R package deal with our recommendations below.

This ST440 kit includes the following by default:

- MAXD 3R workshop fitted remap

- X37 Hybrid Turbocharger

- AIRTEC Motorsport front mount intercooler

- MST Performance induction kit

- Milltek Decat Downpipe

- NGK LTR7IX-11 spark plugs

The options explained:

Air Filter - The standard airbox is perfectly capable of coping with the air flow demands of the MAXD Stage 3R mapping, the standard air filter however is identical throughout the Mk4 Focus range and a high flow panel filter really lets your 2.3 EcoBoost breathe. Alternatively you can replace the airbox with an induction kit adding much more induction noise when on the throttle, and an addictive turbo flutter when you come off the throttle. A number of induction kits take this one step further by replacing the restrictive airbox hose and crossover pipe, ideal for stage 2 and beyond. Pumaspeed Recommends: MST Performance Induction Kit.

Catalyst - The stock catalytic converter has been designed to cope with just 280bhp, when pushing past stage 1 power levels the cat temps will rise to a point where it will begin to cause damage to the internals of your stock catalyst, also due to the small pipe diameter they tend to be rather restrictive even if the internals are removed. When you upgrade to a decat or sports cat therefore you can remove this restriction and allow yourself to add the upgraded mapping and make your car more powerful. A decat gives the best value for money and as a byproduct you will gain more noise. A sports cat will allow you to flow more air just like a decat, and will give you a little bit more exhaust noise, but not as agressive as a decat will. A sports cat will however keep you fully road legal and pass an MOT. Pumaspeed Recommends: Milltek Decat (motorsport use only) and Milltek Sports Cat for road use.

GPF Delete - When developing the MAXD Out stage 2 and 3 mapping for the Focus ST, we experimented with various exhaust setups. We found that removing the restrictive GPF and downpipe gained almost 10bhp back to back versus the stock setup. A GPF delete will also benefit you for a much better exhaust sound, but be aware that a non-res GPF delete is VERY loud when combined with the downpipe so we recommend a resonated GPF if you're going on track and/or like your neighbours! Pumaspeed Recommends: Milltek Resonated GPF Delete.

Exhaust - For most customers, the exhaust will be the first thing to change on your new car, and rightly so, not only will it give more noise personalising the car to your liking, but it will offer a performance benefit too! To a certain extent, the larger bore the exhaust, the more exhaust gases you can flow and the more power you can make, however, go too far and you can lose power. Both Scorpion and Milltek make great sounding, well built systems for the Focus ST. The Milltek GPF back system is the quieter of the two available but also the more expensive option. Pumaspeed Recommends: Milltek Valved Exhaust.

Intercooler - Most turbo cars tend to benefit from an uprated intercooler/chargecooler once you start adding more power, the ST Mk4 Focus has a particularly poor stock intercooler which struggles at even stock levels of power after repeated hard pulls, so at stage 2R you definitely need an upgrade. The AIRTEC intercoolers are perfectly adequate even if you ever plan on running hybrid turbo levels of power. Pumaspeed Recommends: AIRTEC Motorsport Front Mount Intercooler.

Boost Pipes - The hot side boost pipes in particular are rather restrictive on the ST Mk4, and whilst it's not essential to change them with this stage 2R kit, it helps your new intercooler work more efficiently by smoothing the air flow entering the intercooler core. The cold side boost pipes are less important to replace, in the pursuit of ultimate performance they again aid air flow but they also tend to add a little more turbo lag. Spark Plugs - With more power inevitably comes more heat, one way to combat this is to run one stage cooler iridium spark plugs, it's good common practice to change spark plugs on your tuned Mk4 ST every 15k miles so these make the ideal replacement for the OE Ford plugs when the time comes. Pumaspeed Recommends: NGK7IX-11 Custom Gapped Spark Plugs.

Mapping - The hot topic on every Focus ST owners mind, which mapping is best for me and my car? Ultimately it's a very straight forward question to answer, MAXD mapping consistently outperforms it's competitors in all aspects. With stage 3R you will see up to 440bhp and 600nm on a sensibly spec'd car running 99 RON fuel. Yes that's 160bhp and 170nm up from a stock car!! These figures are backed up by over 18 months of development work, independent dyno results and fantastic customer reviews. Pumaspeed recommends: MAXD
